
Rangelands - land that is mostly used for extensive livestock grazing on native vegetation, which occurs in places where rainfall is too low or erratic for agricultural cropping or for improved pastures. Rangelands cover about 70% of Australia.
Sustainability - refers to whether an area of land under a system of land-use can meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs from that land.
Ecological sustainability - refers to whether the ecological processes on which life depends are being maintained.
Economic sustainability - refers to whether land-use practices are resulting in sufficient economic return for them to meet present and future needs.
